Relatives of three Cubans executed for a trying to hijack a boat to the United States in 2003 testified in their damage suit on a video smuggled out of Cuba.

The poor-quality video was played Monday in Washington at a hearing of the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights, an arm of the Organization of American States. A Cuban opposition group produced the video, The Miami Herald reported.

I cry every day, said the grandmother of one of the executed men. I would say that what I am suffering is the fault of the comandante, she said in referring to Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

The petitioners asked the the commission to order Cuba to pay reparations. Cuba does not recognize the commission's authority.

Lorenzo Copello, Barbaro Sevilla and Jorge Martinez were tried and executed by firing squad nine days after the April 2003 attempted hijacking

The United States and other governments condemned the executions, which Cuba said were necessary to stop a mass exodus.
